The Secret Life of Teens
The emotional world beneath the surface of teen behavior.
PROGRAM 2
Teen Success
Motivation, grit, purpose, and learning to let go.
PROGRAM 3
The Teenage Mind
How the developing brain shapes emotions, choices and risk.
PROGRAM 1
The Secret Life of Teens
Adolescence is a time of intense emotional growth, vulnerability and change. Teens may look distant, reactive or private on the surface, but there is usually a rich inner world shaping what they do. This group helps parents understand what is happening beneath the surface and respond in ways that build connection, trust and emotional safety.
The group draws on the research-based framework of the Gottman Institute to help parents learn how teens experience emotions, stress, relationships and identity. Rather than focusing on control or correction, it emphasizes attunement, curiosity and guidance that support healthy development.
In this group, parents will learn how to
Understand the emotional needs that drive teen behavior
Respond to big emotions with empathy while keeping healthy boundaries
Communicate better during conflict, withdrawal or shutdown
Keep trust and connection as teens naturally seek independence
Support emotional intelligence, self-regulation and resilience
Teens today face heavy pressure from school, friendships, identity and other people's expectations. When parents understand how teens process emotions on the inside, they can respond in ways that reduce power struggles and increase cooperation and closeness.
Why This Program Matters
Grounded in decades of research by John Gottman and Julie Gottman, this program offers practical, evidence-based ways to navigate the emotional world of adolescence. It is ideal for parents who want to understand their teen better and build a relationship rooted in trust, respect and long-term emotional health.
PROGRAM 2
Teen Success: Purpose, Achievement and Letting Go
Raising a teenager can feel more complicated when motivation, direction or engagement start to fade. Many parents notice their teen struggling to find meaning, confidence or a sense of purpose. This group helps parents guide their teens toward clarity, resilience and healthy achievement, and prepare for the transitions and letting go that come with the later teen years.
The program offers a structured, research-informed look at what drives teen disengagement and how to respond in ways that encourage growth instead of conflict. Parents learn practical, relationship-based strategies that support motivation, emotional development and long-term success.
In this group, parents will learn how to
Understand the emotional and developmental roots of disengagement
Support grit and resilience through setbacks, stress and self-doubt
Encourage a growth mindset that builds learning, responsibility and confidence
Help teens find purpose, direction and motivation of their own
Many teens say they feel disconnected, overwhelmed or unsure of their path. This program takes those challenges on directly, helping parents create a home where teens feel supported, capable and motivated to move toward meaningful goals.
Why This Program Matters
Grounded in more than 50 years of research by John Gottman and Julie Gottman, this group gives parents clear, practical tools to strengthen connection, guide character development and support a teen's emerging identity. It is ideal for parents who want thoughtful, research-backed guidance through the adolescent years.
PROGRAM 3
The Science of the Teenage Mind
The teenage years bring rapid changes in brain development that shape emotions, decision-making, risk-taking and behavior. What looks like defiance, impulsivity or emotional volatility is often a developing brain learning how to regulate itself. This group helps parents understand those changes so they can respond with more clarity, patience and success.
Informed by the Gottman Institute's research-based approach, the group turns neuroscience and developmental research into practical tools for everyday moments at home. When parents understand how the teenage brain works, they are better able to guide behavior while keeping connection and emotional safety.
In this group, parents will learn how to
Understand how brain development affects emotions, reasoning and impulse control
Respond to intensity and reactivity in ways that support regulation
Reduce power struggles by matching expectations to development
Support better decisions, problem-solving and accountability
Strengthen connection while fostering growing independence
During adolescence, the parts of the brain tied to emotion and reward mature faster than the parts responsible for planning and self-control. That imbalance can lead to big reactions and uneven judgment. Parents who understand this can guide teens through hard moments without escalating conflict or misreading intent.
Why This Program Matters
Grounded in decades of research by John Gottman and Julie Gottman, this program brings together developmental neuroscience and relationship science. It is ideal for parents who want to understand how the teenage brain works and parent in ways that are informed, compassionate and effective.
