15-MINUTE CALL
Plans we work with: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, DMBA, EMI Health, PEHP, SelectHealth, UMR, UnitedHealthcare and University of Utah Health Plans, with TRICARE coming soon. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid right now, and that includes most Medicare Advantage plans. We plan to add Medicare, so ask when you call and we will tell you plainly where things stand. Amy sees clients in person only. Brian, Becky, and Aubree also offer telehealth.
WHY PEOPLE CALL US
The reasons people call after 65 are rarely the ones their kids expect
Your spouse of forty years died in March and everyone stopped checking in by June. You retired from a job that was most of who you were, and the days have gone shapeless. You are the one caring for a husband who no longer knows the year, and there is nobody left to care for you.
Or the past came back. Something from the service, or from a childhood in a house nobody talked about, that you kept in a box for fifty years and that started opening on its own once the house went quiet.
Some people arrive able to name it. Plenty cannot, and say only that they are not themselves. That is enough to start, and nobody here will treat you like a problem to be managed.
WHAT WE TREAT
Six things we see most after 65
Amy Pollard's practice is adults and older adults. Brian, Becky and Aubree see adults of every age, and Brittany, Emily and Kristen see adults too. This is not everything, and you do not have to fit the list to call.
What we treat
What it looks like
Old trauma resurfacing
Combat, abuse, a loss decades ago. Things that stayed put while you were busy and did not once you were not. Amy Pollard is EMDR certified. Brian Austin is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist.
Anxiety and health worry
Waiting on scan results, managing a body that needs more managing, and the low hum of worry that arrived with the first real diagnosis.
Depression
Losing interest and appetite, sleeping badly. Family waves it off as age. It is not a normal part of getting older, and it responds to treatment.
Grief
A spouse, a sibling, a friend a month, and the particular grief of outliving people. Also the kind that has not lifted a year on.
Retirement and purpose
The first year after leaving work, when the calendar is empty and nobody needs you at eight.
Caregiving and family strain
Caring for a spouse or a parent, adult children who moved back or moved away, and the fights about money, the house, and who decides.
HOW WE DECIDE
How the work changes after 65
There is no single correct way to do this. What is different at this age is the pace. Nobody here is going to hurry you, hand you an app, or treat sixty years of experience as something to be talked out of.
For some people the work is practical. Sleep, the structure of a week, what to do with the hour after dinner that used to belong to someone else. For others it is older and slower. A marriage that ended when you were thirty. A father who never said the thing. There is no age at which that stops mattering.
Depending on what you bring and who you see, the work may draw on EMDR, CBT, ACT, Internal Family Systems, or motivational interviewing. Your therapist should be able to tell you, in plain language, why they are suggesting the one they are suggesting.
Handling it yourself got you through a great deal. It raised children, buried parents, and kept a marriage going through years nobody else saw.
We are not here to argue you out of that. We are here because it stopped being enough on its own, and that happens to nearly everyone eventually.
The goal is not to turn you into someone who talks about feelings. It is to get the weight off you so the years ahead are yours.

WHAT TO EXPECT
What people expect, and what actually happens
Most of what keeps people over 65 from calling is a picture of therapy from a film, or from a son or daughter who means well.
What people expect
What actually happens
You lie on a couch and talk about your mother.
You sit in a chair. You talk about what you want to talk about. Your mother comes up only if you bring her.
It is for people who cannot cope.
It is for people carrying more than one person should. Most of our clients over 65 have coped for decades. That is precisely why they are tired.
Your therapist will be half your age and will not understand.
Amy Pollard has practiced since 2007 and taught at BYU for over a decade. Brian spent eleven years in the Marine Corps. Nobody will be baffled by your life.
You have to do it on a computer.
You do not. All of our clinicians see clients in person at the Provo office. Telehealth exists if you want it, and nobody will push it on you.
It goes on for years.
Some people come for eight sessions about one thing. Some stay longer. You are allowed to ask how long this should take, and to stop when it has done its job.
WHEN YOU CALL
What actually happens when you call
The first call is fifteen minutes and it is free. You will not be asked to describe your life to a stranger on the phone.
We want three things. Roughly what is going on. What your week can hold, and if you drive or someone brings you. What coverage you have, which we check while you are on the line, including where Medicare comes in. Then we tell you which clinician here fits, and when that person can actually see you.
On that call we cover
What has been going on, in whatever words you have for it.
What your week can actually hold, and which clinician has that slot.
Your coverage, checked while you are on the line, with the number said out loud.
If nobody here is the right fit, or your coverage does not work here, we will say so and point you to someone in Utah County who does take it. That is a better outcome for you than six wasted weeks.
Most people start weekly. By session three or four you and your therapist should have a working direction. If you do not, say so. A good therapist will not be wounded by hearing it.
WHO YOU WOULD SEE
Amy first, and three others who see adults of every age
Amy Pollard has been an LCSW since 2007 and EMDR certified since 2016. Adults and older adults are the whole of her practice. She spent three years as a crisis social worker in the University of Utah emergency department, ran two outpatient substance use programs for Utah County, and has taught social work at BYU on and off since 2009. She sees clients in person.
Brian Austin has been practicing for twelve years, is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, and spent eleven years in the Marine Corps before graduate school, which matters to some veterans and not at all to others.
Becky Duebeck, CMHC, works with trauma, substance use, and anxiety. Aubree Stock, CSW, is EMDR trained and has worked in Utah's child welfare system since 2016, which is useful when the strain is between you and your adult children, or grandchildren you are raising.
Amy Pollard, LCSW · Adults and Older Adults
Brian Austin, LCSW · Teens (16+), Adults, Older Adults, Couples
Becky Duebeck, CMHC · Adults and Older Adults
Aubree Stock, CSW · All Ages, Couples, Families
If you already know who you want, ask for them by name. If you do not, that is exactly what the fifteen minute call is for. Amy sees clients in person only; Brian, Becky, and Aubree also offer telehealth.
WHAT IT COSTS
What it costs, and where Medicare stands
Sessions run 60 minutes. Self-pay is $150.
We do not take Medicare or Medicaid right now. If Medicare is your only coverage, call anyway. Self-pay is $150, you can ask for a written estimate first, and if cost rules us out we will give you the names of people in Utah County who do take Medicare.
If you have a commercial plan through a former employer or a spouse, we check it while you are on the line and tell you the copay out loud. TRICARE For Life works alongside Medicare, and our TRICARE contract is still coming soon, so ask us on the call where that stands.
Good Faith Estimate
If you are uninsured or paying out of pocket, federal law gives you the right to a written estimate of what your care will cost before it starts. Ask us for one and we will put it in writing. Read how it works.
START HERE
Fifteen minutes on the phone, and then you will know
Tell us what is going on. We will tell you who here fits, what your coverage does, and when that person can see you. If you would rather a son or daughter make the first call, that is fine. We will still speak with you before anything is scheduled.
