About This Group
Some teenagers feel everything at full volume. Small things land hard, the reaction comes before the thought, and the fallout lands on school, friendships and home. DBT was built for exactly that. This group teaches a concrete set of skills for riding out intense emotion without making things worse, and it follows Steady Ground, our own group curriculum in resilience and emotion skills.
What We Cover
The curriculum moves through five stages. Notice: what is happening in my body, and training attention to come back. Name: putting accurate words to a feeling, telling a feeling apart from a judgement, and tracking intensity. Settle: bringing intensity down without numbing, using breath, the senses and the body, and knowing what to do when it will not shift. Sort: separating the story from the facts, catching thinking traps, and meeting the part of you that was trying to protect you. Steer: choosing by your values rather than by the feeling, setting boundaries, and repairing connection after a rupture. The last unit is about keeping it, with a plan for the hard weeks and an ending that is handled properly.
Who This Group Is For
Teenagers and adolescents who struggle with emotional intensity, impulsive or self-destructive coping, conflict at home, or relationships that feel unstable. No specific diagnosis is needed. There is a short conversation before joining so you and your teen know what group is and is not, and so we can be confident it is the right fit right now.
Format and Details
A closed group, meaning the same members start and finish together rather than people joining part way through. A 24-week version of this group is also offered for teens who want the full course.
